Go ahead punk, make my day...

My second surgery had to be rescheduled by almost two weeks because the surgeon, as it turns out, was on vacation. I'm not sure why the hospital administrators didn't know this in the first place. The time change didn't really bother me though, and I was happy to have the same surgeon.

After it was all over and I woke up in the recovery ward, the surgeon was waiting beside me to ensure that everything was alright. Unfortunately this was not the case, my voice was very weak and hoarse, and she got fairly worried that a nerve was damaged. An ENT doctor came down to check what was wrong with my voice. He did this by leading a wire, with a tiny camera attached on one end, up my nose and down my throat. Then, he gave my surgeon a nod and left. She attempted to explain to me what had gone wrong, but I was not able to concentrate well enough to absorb all the information. Later she told my girlfriend who passed it on to me.

The problem is that my recurrent laryngeal nerve is not working correctly, so one of my vocal chords isn't doing much. I've read that it may take up to one year for my voice to return, but there is a small chance that it will never return (~1%). Until then, I sound like Batman (from the new series, e.g., Batman Begins or Dark Knight) or a little bit like Clint Eastwood.
